Grab-Bag of Destruction
[1.5.05]

What a terrible start to the New Year: Tsunami deaths totaling around 150,000. It makes one heart-sick. Amidst the massive destruction one could see the storm-savvy Jeb Bush touring around Asia with Colin Powell, getting the same amount of press face-time as the soon-to-be-not-Secretary. Grooming for 2008, perhaps? Perhaps the three hurricaines that hit the Florida coast this year were the best thing to happen to Jeb's political carreer. (Oh, so jaded...)

In a bloody week coming before the controversial upcoming elections in Iraq, Baghdad's provincial governor, Ali al-Haidri was assassinated. Sunni pullout of elections is casting doubts as to the legitimacy of the election, while proponents urge that elections, flawed or not, are better than no elections.

But perhaps even more heart-wrenching than all these headlines: Heidi Klum is getting married to scarry-eyed singer Seal, as announced Jan 5th. Ich fülle mich Hund's miserable.

Ah, well, life goes on...
